Kingman and Heritage Islands Park

Park information

The park consists of two separate islands, Kingman Island and Heritage Island. Each island is adorned with wooded trails, river views and wetlands. The park recently underwent some major construction efforts through the District of Columbia Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development. The Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region has adopted the park, who now manage the educational programs and upkeep of the park. Admission to the park is free, and it is open for visitors from 9AM to 5PM in the summer and 9AM to sunset in the winter. The park closes on many national holidays.

Kingman and Heritage Islands Park is appealing to those who love the outdoors. One of the most popular activities at the park is biking. Biking is available on the boardwalk as well as on natural rugged trails. Many people enjoy boating on Kingman Lake and the surrounding Anacostia River. Other people come to the park for hiking, dog walking and picnicking. The park also has a world-renowned environmental education center.
