Kalorama Park

Kalorama Park is a small park located in Washington, DC, at the intersection of Columbia road and 19th Street and Kalorama Road. Its name comes from the Greek phrase for "beautiful view," and Kalorama Park lives up to this moniker. The land was part of an estate during the 1800s and later converted to a park. It came under government ownership in 1940 and was transferred over to the District of Columbia in 1971.
Landscaping and funding.
The funding for Kalorama park is provided through the Fund for Kalorama Park, which was established in 1995. Since then, over $100,000 has gone toward developing this 3-acre parcel of land, paying for tree planting and grounds manicuring. This fund also contributed to the construction of playground equipment, basketball courts and picnic areas.
Activities and play
Kalorama park offers many activities for kids and their parents. There are playgrounds for young children and basketball courts for older youth. The park has even sponsored several double dutch teams in competitions and boasts several soccer leagues that play their home games on its field.
Community garden
Kalorama Park is also home to a community garden. Residents in the area use the garden to grow veggies and flowers. They can earn a coveted garden plot through a lottery held during the spring of each year.
This small but beautiful park contributes greatly to the surrounding community of Washington, DC. Receiving thousands of visitors per year, it remains one of the best-known parks in the district and is well worth a visit.
