Fort Reno Park

Fort Reno Park is a small park in Washington D.C. that was built at the highest point of the city. It is also the site of the only Civil War battle to take place in the state. This park is now open to the public, and hosts several events each year, the largest of which is the annual fireworks display on July 4th.

Temporary closing

Fort Reno Park was temporarily closed in 2008 after arsenic was apparently detected in the soil. It was later found that the reading of the arsenic levels was a mistake. The park was declared safe and reopened. Rumors still surface about the dangers of the park's soil but these are false.

What the park has to offer

The main attraction at this park during the summer months is the free concerts. These are held weekly on an outdoor stage and bands such as Fugazi and The Very Nice Plants have played in the past. Guests should bring their own blankets and chairs as the concerts are held on a lawn.

Other activities

This park is an excellent place for families to spend time together during the day. There are numerous picnic areas and places to barbecue. Ice cream trucks are regularly out in the daytime, providing patrons with relief from the heat with a delicious sweet treat.

A day or evening spent at Fort Reno Park in Washington D.C is never wasted. Whether visitors come for the free concerts or an afternoon picnic, they enjoy the unique mixture of history and new culture.
